First Job

Company description

Job description

The sample taker is an important link in the inspection process of chemical substances entering or being produced in the port of Antwerp. You will be responsible for the supervision of unloading and loading operations of chemicals, petroleum products and liquid gases at refineries, chemical plants and storage terminals.

A selection from your duties:

A truck, rail car, land tank or ship, any place where chemicals are stored will become your job site. You like to be on the road and you know perfectly how to map out your routes in the port of Antwerp.

Your main assignment is to take samples from trucks, drums and land tanks. You always do this with all safety provisions and procedures in mind.

Sometimes you can already perform a number of tests yourself. For more detailed analyzes, a team of specialized laboratory technicians is available to carry out quality control.

Finally, you will report your own results and findings in our system.

Despite the fact that we work with a schedule, unexpected and urgent assignments can always come out of the blue. You are flexible enough to adapt to these changes and perform overtime if necessary. Of course you can compensate these hours at a later time.

Job requirements

Taking a representative sample is more difficult than you think. That is why you will first go through a training period to learn all the tricks of the trade.

You have preferably followed a chemical or technical training so that you already know a little about which products you will be working with. Relevant work experience is of course a big plus. Safety and accuracy are of paramount importance.

You like to work outside and a little rain, wind or snow will not stop you from doing a good job. Climbing stairs in the blazing sun in a safety suit and with respiratory protection on the back are also not a problem.

Independence, flexibility, responsibility, accuracy, work ethic and a sense of humor are your main assets. You also have a healthy dose of assertiveness.

Besides a good knowledge of Dutch, you speak fluent English. Knowledge of French is a great asset.

You have a valid driver's license and enjoy driving around the port of Antwerp.
