Music Crossroads is a non-profit organisation which uses the power of music education, professional training, live performances and promotion of young talents to support the development of the music education sector and the music industry in the culturally rich southern African region.
Our unique Music Crossroads Academies in Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, established in April 2013, empower talented young musicians with an affordable and innovative music education program, and the necessary tools for a career in music.
Music Crossroads was initiated in 1995 by Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI), the world’s largest youth-music network, organising annual festivals, international band tours, and training many young talents in Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe, with established independent Music Crossroads entities. One of the biggest and most exciting cultural development initiatives in Africa, the Music Crossroads program has involved more than 150,000 young musicians and reached more than a million audiences in southern Africa.

Music Crossroads International (MCI) is a non-profit organization that empowers youth in Africa through music and professional training. Founded in 1995 by Jeunesses Musicales International, MC currently operates in 3 African countries. You will communicate with individuals and organisations from a variety of different cultures and backgrounds.
MCI is looking for a motivated creative young person to gain valuable insight into the field of international development work in arts and culture in a diverse, fast-paced environment.
You will be responsible for:
- Assisting in the coordination of communications across the organisation with its partners in Africa;
- Maintaining/developing social media platforms (creating content, follow up with analytics, etc.)
- Developing and managing content for the website
- Producing communication material to increase the outreach (articles, press releases, posters, brochures, illustrations, videos, etc.).
- Helping with the conceptualizing, design and production of printed media (experience with Adobe suite is a plus)
- You should be flexible, a quick learner and possess the ability to take initiative. You must have proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with Adobe media editing programmes.

- University degree or equivalent (Bachelor or Master)
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Good creative writing skills
- Excellent technical skills: internet, MS Office, Google apps, WordPress
- Knowledge of managing social media
- Graphic design skills
- Strong communications skills
- Video and/or music editing skills
- Marketing skills
- Experience with Africa is a plus
- Portuguese is a plus
We are offering an internship at our Head Office in Brussels, Belgium.
The candidate will have the opportunity to work hands on with several different aspects of cultural management in stimulating, dynamic and innovative environment in the heart of Europe. By the end of the internship the candidate will have gained a firm understanding of Multi-cultural project management, marketing and communications, graphic design, as well as social media management. Candidates will acquire concrete work experience that will build on their existing skills set, an asset for any future job application.
The internship also offers a chance to gain insight into the field of international development work through arts and culture and to work with individuals from a variety of different cultures and backgrounds.
Full-time: Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00 (unless agreed upon a minimum 3 days prior)
Monthly travel card (50 EUR a month)
Food allowance (6 EUR a day)
