The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees offers assistance and protection to refugees around the world. UNHCR is one of the largest refugee agencies, with a staff of almost 11,000 employees in 130 countries who help millions of refugees, returnees and internally displaced and stateless persons.

The External Relations Unit for Belgium and Luxembourg is urgently seeking a native French-speaking intern for six months starting 2 July 2018.  The intern must meet the administrative criteria set out below and have a good command of English, a good comprehension of Dutch and knowledge of the media sector (including social media). Layout and website content management skills are an asset.

 

Working method
Interns are entrusted with increasingly independent tasks. We seek individuals with a responsible, follow-up approach. UNHCR Belgium’s External Relations office continuously innovates with new projects. Interns participate in meetings; their creative ideas, technical knowhow and other contributions are highly valued. Some of our projects’ end results are visible on our website unhcr.be, in which the interns play a key role in updating. 

General description of internship

  • Researching and summarizing information on a variety of historic and current refugee issues
  • Monitoring and analyzing the Belgian and Luxembourg press on a daily basis
  • Editing and translating texts (English and Dutch into French), usually for the website
  • Finding and loading content onto Twitter and the website to strict deadlines
  • Assisting with the organization of events
  • Assisting with presentations about refugees
  • Assisting with publications (brochures, bookmarks, posters), and videos if desired
  • Assistance with general office tasks on an ad hoc basis

Requisite educational and administrative criteria
In order to be considered eligible for an internship, the following criteria must be fulfilled:

  • Be a recent graduate or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school;
  • programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
  • Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the  work of the Organization;
