Many students are reluctant to the idea of an internship. A lot of them have the wrong idea of what working as an intern is like. First of all, get rid of the stereotype of the student whose tasks ...
The ONE Campaign
ONE Youth Ambassador
ONE is an international campaigning and advocacy organization of more than 7 million people taking action to end extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa… because the facts show extreme poverty has already been cut by 60% and can be virtually eliminated by 2030, but only if we act with urgency now.
Cofounded by Bono, we raise public awareness and work with political leaders to combat AIDS and preventable diseases, increase investments in agriculture and nutrition, and demand greater transparency so governments are accountable to their citizens. ONE does not raise money itself to build schools, hospitals and the like, but does its work by advocacy and campaigning so that government funds continue to flow to programs that make a difference in people’s lives. ONE works closely with African activists and policymakers as they fight corruption, promote poverty-fighting priorities, monitor the use of aid, and help build civil society and economic development. ONE’s work is strictly politically non-partisan.
In recent years, ONE’s members, together with other campaigners, have played an important role in persuading governments to support effective programs and policies that are making a measurable difference in fighting extreme poverty and disease. Partly as a result of these advocacy efforts, more than 9 million people living in Africa today have access to lifesaving AIDS medication, up from only 50,000 in 2002. Malaria has been cut by 75% in eight African countries since 2000, and 54 million more children across sub-Saharan Africa are now going to primary school compared to 1999.
Do you want to get more involved in the fight against extreme poverty? Develop new skills in creating change? And join hundreds of other young people for Europe-wide activism? The amazing results obtained by our Youth Ambassadors in 2014 and 2015 prove that engaged young citizens CAN make a difference in the fight against poverty. At ONE, 'we're not asking for your money, we're asking for your voice.'
For the 3rd consecutive year, we are recruiting volunteers across Europe to lead the fight against extreme poverty by campaigning locally, nationally and online. The Youth Ambassador program offers 300 young European citizens, including 50 located in Belgium, the opportunity to work alongside the ONE team to encourage stakeholders and policy makers to take concrete measures for the fight against extreme poverty in the world. You will become a leader for the ONE Campaign in your community and beyond, carrying out a variety of creative, ambitious, and innovative actions to support our campaigns.
We are looking for Youth Ambassadors of any European nationality, living in Belgium. At ONE we think youth is a state of mind. Anyone aged 18 – 35 can apply, but we would also like to hear from outstanding candidates who are over 35 but still young at heart!
The programme will run for the whole of 2016 with a launch event in Brussels in March, and a ONE Summit that will bring Youth Ambassadors from across Europe together in spring.
You will receive training on how to campaign, lobby decision-makers and talk to the media. You will have the opportunity to attend ONE events, or organise your own, and put your skills into practice in meetings with high-level decision makers.
This ambassadorship is not a full-time or paid role. It is a volunteer role that should not take more than a few hours of your time every week.
To apply, please send your CV and the questionnaire found at http://www.one.org/international/take-action/become-a-one-youth-ambassador-belgium/ to firstname.lastname@example.org before 23:59 CET Sunday the 28th of February. Applications must be in English.
Ambassadors will have:

> Great communication and teamwork skills
> Willingness to attend a programme induction and training in Brussels in March
> Capacity to build and maintain relationships and great people skills
> Ability to encourage and support others

> Ability to speak in public with ease as well as good convincing skills
> A good level of written and spoken English

> Only applicants living in Belgium and holding a residence permit will be considered
This is a fantastic role for anyone looking to gain more experience in international development while contributing to a worthwhile cause where you can make a difference!
You will be given training and support throughout to make sure you are comfortable speaking to politicians, taking part in campaigns and organising events.
In addition to the many benefits and rewards that come with working in development, we will offer:
> A clear set of objectives and deliverables with a written summary of achievements awarded on completion of the programme
> Regular online and offline training in areas including campaigning, advocacy, and media

> Reimbursement of reasonable expenses when on duty (please note that this is a volunteer position)
