As a new graduate it is new easy to find a first job, especially when most of the offers require several years of experience. However if you want to be proactive on the job market but tired of internships there may be a solution, Traineeships (or Young Graduate Programs).
What is a Young Graduate Program?
The traineeship is right in the middle between a job and an internship. Indeed, you work in a company while still developing your skills. This could be ideal for a new graduate who considers that his lack of experience or practical skills could be an obstacle in his job search. Almost every company with a Graduate Program offers a permanent contract if it went well.
In general, during his traineeship, the employee will discover several departments of the company in order have a more in-depth understanding of the company. About the duration, it really depends on the employer but most Traineeships last more or less one year.
A Traineeship is very different from an internship. First of all because it is paid but most of all because you will actually be working in the company thus you will have responsibilities. No need to say that a traineeship is a synonym of experience.
Who can become a Trainee ?
Most of the company with a Graduate Program require from their trainees to have good grades and skills Therefore, in most cases you will have to pass a test in order to be hired.
Very often, a Master’s degree is also necessary in order to take part in a Graduate Program but this is not a universal rule and it depends on the companies so you can always check their website to know what kind of educational background is required.
What kind of companies offer Young Graduate Programs ?
The number of companies with a Young Graduate Program is constantly increasing. Nonetheless it seems obvious that only big companies can afford to hire a graduate and still continue to train him.
