Max (Business Strategic Developer):
1.Do you remember how you landed your internship at Student ? Pure luck ?
My studies were wrapping up, around May 2024, and I needed an internship for September.
I was already signed up on Student and applied for a Field Manager position, just like Thibault did.
I wasn’t super keen on starting out in a big company. Then the offer, the vibe, and the atmosphere at Student really drew me in. So I applied, Matth (co-CEO with Florence) called me, and within two weeks, I had signed !
2.What were your tasks back then ? Was there something you loved doing (or dreaded a bit) ?
I didn’t love getting in early to welcome students or staying late to wait for them either.
I was pretty independent in how I worked, there wasn’t a super strict roadmap to follow. I tried to optimize my work as much as possible to reduce friction for the students and make things easier for them.
Something kind of annoying was when students would call me about problems I wasn’t even responsible for, so I couldn’t really do anything to help.
3.What did you learn during your internship that you still use today ?
I really didn’t like calling people at all, but during my internship, I had to call hundreds of students, for recruiting, interviews, or just to answer their questions. And now ? I actually prefer calling over sending messages.
It also gave me a clearer idea of what to expect from a company, and more importantly, what’s expected of me.
To sum it up, my biggest takeaway was learning how to handle human contact!
4.Who was the first person on the team who made you feel comfortable or took you under their wing ?
During my first interview with Student, I was really nervous, but Matth and Flo (the big boss) quickly put me at ease and I ended up with a really good feeling about them.
During the internship, I was with other interns, shout-out to Clément (who also ended up getting hired 😉) and Thomas.
But overall, I got along super well with everyone.
5.Give us a story: what’s a funny or unexpected moment that happened to you at Student ?
I remember during the team-building event in Orval, we still had to work a bit, but I was at the end of my internship so I had less to do. It honestly felt like a school trip with classmates, it was really funny. Then we partied all weekend, it was amazing.
Bonus story : one day during the celebration of Student’s 10-year anniversary, everyone was in such a good mood, nobody wanted any drama. I was walking down the street with Ben (the big boss) and Matth, and the weather was kind of bad, so Ben had an umbrella. Suddenly, someone stole Ben’s umbrella... We tried to get it back, but the guy started doing fencing moves with it to scare us off. We had a good laugh and just kept walking to continue the party (without the umbrella...).
6.When did you feel like you wanted to stay on and keep going with Student ?
When they offered me the chance to stay, haha ! A few days before Flo even mentioned the idea, I was already thinking that I really wanted to stick around because I loved the atmosphere, the mission, and the working conditions, and in the end, everything lined up perfectly !
7.What’s the big difference between your previous role and your current one ?
In my current role, I talk to clients, negotiate, and do outreach.
Before, I was calling people who needed me (students), and now I call people to convince them that they need me.
8.How do you feel you’ve grown since you arrived ?
At first, I was way more nervous about calling people, but now I get that this is how you attract them, and I’m more confident.
Now I can explain what Student is for five minutes straight, before, I was done in one sentence !
And this is after only a month and a half. I learn a lot from the other salespeople, their knowledge, experience, and techniques. I take a bit from everyone and shape it into what fits my own work style best.
9.What’s your favorite part of your job right now ? A cool project or mission you love ?
I really enjoyed doing a workshop at my old school (shout-out to Collège Jean XXIII).
Right now, I get a lot of satisfaction from calling people in sectors that speak to me more, like impact-driven companies, and thinking about how we can help them.
In general, I want students to have as many options as possible when they enter the job market, from startups and consulting firms to fast-growing SMEs.
10.If you had to convince a student to apply to Student, what would you tell them, honestly ?
Talking to people around me, I realize the vibe at Student is just unmatched. There’s a great mix of innovation and challenge across the whole team.
Honestly, I could be doing a completely different job, but if it were with this same team, I’d still do it. The work environment is really stimulating, both professionally and personally.
You build real connections, it’s cool to have a young team full of people you can relate to. And those with more experience are always happy to share what they know.
This job really means something to me.
In my day-to-day, I love giving visibility to smaller companies, I think it’s cool to show that they matter too. I genuinely want young people to be able to apply to any type of employer with us.
So honestly, I’d just tell them : go for it, don’t hesitate. Worst case ? You walk away with amazing memories.
