Antoine Vandendael graduated in economics from HEC Liège, specialising in sales and marketing management. During his studies, he became aware of the importance of data within companies. Above all, he realised the potential of data to solve complex problems and improve corporate decision-making.
For him, it was obvious: having data skills is a major asset on the job market.
The decision to enrol on a Data Analytics course
Antoine then decided to join Le Wagon to train in Data Analytics. The training courses offered by Le Wagon are different from traditional courses. It's called a "bootcamp" rather than a training, because learners follow a short (9 weeks full-time or 24 weeks in evening classes) but very intense programme (400 hours of training!). The training focuses on practice and collective learning, with the aim of mastering current tools and practices that can be directly transposed to the professional world.
Antoine explains:
"I wanted to retain my management skills while adding technical expertise in data analysis. This bootcamp seemed to me to be the perfect link between these two areas. Le Wagon really motivated me to explore this world and master the technical tools available."
9 intense weeks of training in tech and data
In October 2023, Antoine joined Le Wagon with 16 other students, all keen to make the transition to a career in tech, data or IT. Together, they learn how to collect, extract and transform data, and master KPIs to create automated dashboards. Over the course of nine weeks, they learn the most widely used programming languages and analysis tools, such as Python, SQL, Looker Studio, Power BI, Zapier, Google Tag Manager, etc.
At the end of the course, students work in groups on a final project to put everything they have learned into practice. They carry out a data analysis project from A to Z based on real company data, which they present at Demo Days. Antoine and his group work on a case study from Home Exchange (see his presentation here).
"My experience at Le Wagon has been extraordinary. I made enormous progress in a very short amount of time. I particularly liked the dynamics of the bootcamp, the teamwork, and the accessibility of the teachers and assistants. The learning platform was also very well designed, and knowing that I have access to it for life is a real advantage."
Career transition to the Data field
During his training at Le Wagon, Antoine landed a job at Intys, a consultancy firm in Brussels. Although his first assignment was not directly related to data, he is continuing to train within the company with a view to taking up a Data Analyst post in the coming months. Antoine is convinced that continuous learning is the key to success. He stresses the importance of continuing to train in the fields of data and technology.
“Le Wagon gave me a solid foundation and a range of technical tools that are essential for working in data. However, as with all jobs today, I need to continue to evolve and practice regularly to gain confidence.”
Tips for those looking for a career in Data
Antoine's journey proves that a sector transition is possible. He sums up his experience for those interested in taking the leap:
"I would tell them that Le Wagon offers intensive, high-quality training to acquire the basics of the necessary tools. In addition, the Le Wagon network opens up huge career opportunities. However, to succeed in the data business, it's crucial to stay constantly up to date and to continue training, both inside and outside the profession."
