Working for a non-profit or an NGO?
As a student or recent graduate, working in the non-profit sector might not be the first thing that comes to mind. Yet this sector offers plenty of exciting career opportunities just waiting to be explored.
On Student.be, you’ll find a wide range of job offers at non-profit organisations. The non-profit sector spans various fields, each with its own target audience and mission. Think home care, youth camps, aid and solidarity organisations, and educational institutions. What unites these organisations — and what truly defines a non-profit — is their social and societal commitment. That’s a sharp contrast with the profit sector, where financial gain and happy shareholders are the main goals.
So, does that mean you don’t get paid when working for a non-profit? Not at all. In fact, many non-profits also offer additional perks such as meal vouchers, year-end bonuses and commuting reimbursements. That said, these benefits may be more limited, as most of the funding goes directly toward the cause the organisation supports. And that’s often the tricky part for many job seekers.
So, are you socially and societally engaged, and looking for a people-oriented internship, student job or first job where you can truly make a difference in the world? Then the non-profit sector is definitely worth considering. Just make sure to do your research, as motivation is more important than ever when applying here. It’s also crucial to apply to a non-profit whose mission genuinely resonates with you. In other words, finding the right match is everything.
